After 1.2 billion searches, here are Roku’s top-searched movies and TV series of the year

Happy New Year, Streamers!

This year on the Roku platform, you conducted more than 1.2 billion searches in the U.S., a nearly 50% increase from 2022. So as we say goodbye to 2023, let’s look back at the movies, TV series, actors and actresses you searched for the most.

Top Searched Movies 

Beating out every other movie, TV series, actor or actress, the #1 most searched title on Roku in the U.S. was The Super Mario Bros Movie. Other recent hits like The Little Mermaid, Avatar: The Way of Water, and M3GAN also landed on the list of top searched 2023 movies.

The reigning champs of TV searches in the U.S. were Yellowstone (#1) and SpongeBob SquarePants (#2), which both held onto their spots from 2022. PAW Patrol, South Park and Bluey rounded out the top five. Of the year’s top 10, four are in the kids & family genre, and six are animated series, including The Simpsons and Peppa Pig.

The actor you searched for most was Adam Sandler, who starred in Netflix’s Murder Mystery 2 and also earned the honor of top searched actor in 2022 in the U.S. Searches for Sandler spiked in early April following the movie’s release.
