Thinking outside the black box
It wasn’t too long ago that technology came with a ticking clock—a countdown to obsolescence that started the day you brought it home. Now, it doesn’t have to be that way, especially in the Roku ecosystem. We design our products with the present in mind.

We obviously know all about creating great hardware, from the streamlined simplicity of our remote control to our new, world-class Pro Series TV. But we’re even more obsessed with creating great software that can continuously surprise and delight our customers.
For instance, we wanted to bring something we know you love right to your TVs: trivia. Every Tuesday, viewers at home will discover a trivia game on their home screen that’s all Roku, with questions tied to cultural moments like movie and TV premieres, holidays and more. With trivia popularity at an all-time high, now you can put your entertainment knowledge to the test in the comfort of your home.
Another way we are finding new ways to turn the biggest screen in your home into way more than just a TV is through Backdrops. Backdrops, a new feature, lets users transform their TVs into a picture frame capable of displaying art, with access to a free catalog of images that includes famous classic pieces, abstract designs, and more. Better yet, Backdrops won’t just be a feature on our new high-end TVs—it will work on any Roku TV or player, whether you bought it 10 minutes or 10 years ago.
We’ve also brought smart home integration to the beloved Roku Voice Remote. Want to dim the lights? Say “Hey Roku, dim the Living Room,” to get ready for movie night. Wondering what that ruckus is on the back porch? Say “Hey Roku, show me the back porch,” to bring up a live camera feed right on your TV.
These features are intentional innovation in action. We want to deliver continuous value—not only by offering a great price when customers buy our products, but by adding new features that make the device better over time.
When customers choose Roku, we see it as the start of a long-term relationship. This means we’ll keep delivering the best in entertainment and innovation—not only today, but into the future.
