The 10 best and worst musicians turned actors
Happy GRAMMY week! We’re all music and movie lovers, isn’t it awesome when those worlds collide? Well, sometimes it is…sometimes it’s real bad.
These best and worst musicians turned actors, as determined by some of our lovely Roku employees. Agree? Disagree? Let us know in the comments.
BEST
-
Mark Wahlberg
I don’t know about you, but “Good Vibrations” by Marky Mark And The Funky Bunch was the theme of my summer in ’91. Mark shed the baggy jeans and pleasantly surprised everyone in The Fighter and The Departed, securing him Oscar nominations for both. -
Justin Timberlake
JT can do no wrong. He not only has serious acting chops (The Social Network, Alpha Dog) but he can clearly do funny too. With Emmy wins for songs and performances on Saturday Night Live and six GRAMMY wins, Mr. Timberlake isn’t going anywhere. -
Will Smith
He’s come a long way from rapping with Jazzy Jeff and playing the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. His leading roles in The Pursuit of Happyness and Ali had us all in awe. -
Cher
The original Diva. Cher’s been blending her singing and acting worlds since The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, but really took center stage in her Academy Award winning performance in Moonstuck. Other notable roles in Silkwood, Witches of Eastwick, Mermaids, and the list goes on and on. -
Harry Connick Jr.
From Jazz and Broadway to Will & Grace and American Idol, Harry Connick Jr. can truly do it all. He’s also won two Emmys for Outstanding Music Direction in 2004 and 2011.
WORST
-
Madonna
Sorry, Madge. OK, Evita and A League of Her Own were pretty good, but all of these really bad movies overshadow them: Swept Away, Body of Evidence and Shanghai Surprise. -
Britney Spears
Britney’s list of acting roles is very short for a good reason: Crossroads. That’s all. -
Prince
Like Britney, Prince luckily hasn’t done too much acting. We’re glad he’s sticking to music after his performance in Purple Rain. -
Jennifer Lopez
There were some split opinions on J-Lo at the Roku office. But no one can forget Gigli. -
Mariah Carey
Glitter. ‘Nuff said.
