Show of the week: Everybody Hates Chris

Show summary: Based on Chris Rock’s teenage experiences (Rock co-created the show and narrates it), the comedy is set in the 1980s. Chris (played by Tyler James Williams), the eldest of three children, is uprooted to a new neighborhood and bused into a predominately white middle school two hours away by his strict, hard-working parents (played by Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold). The show follows his often-hilarious struggles to find his place while keeping his siblings in order and navigating his way through school.

Why we love the show: There is a reason the show garnered immediate critical claim when it first premiered. Leave it to Rock to provide a humorous, but also heartfelt, look at race, family, and growing up.
