How ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ became the most-watched Roku debut of all time

In the last episode of The Spiderwick Chronicles, Aunt Lucinda (portrayed by the brilliant Charlayne Woodard) delivers powerful words crafted by showrunner Aron Coleite: “Having someone believe in you is the most powerful form of magic there is.” When it came to Spiderwick, we believed – and what magical results we now celebrate, thanks to the millions of streamers who chose to enter this spectacular world on Roku.

Spiderwick #1 Premiere on Roku Channel

The Spiderwick Chronicles wrapped its opening weekend as not only the #1 title by reach and engagement on The Roku Channel, but also the most watched on-demand title to ever debut in The Roku Channel’s history – by unique viewers and hours streamed (singular day and first three days). This remarkable, record-breaking achievement is a testament to the great work of the hundreds of artisans behind the project, the incredible reach of Roku, and the fans who came along for the ride.

Spiderwick’s journey to Roku was unique, and we are most proud of our teams who dreamed big and executed this incredible Roku platform takeover to support the series premiere. From a free fan experience, to a full homescreen takeover, to a new channel tile – best-in class work from all cross-functional departments (including content, marketing, engineering, visual design, product and PR) led to this accomplishment. (Check some of it out below!) And let’s not forget Spiderwick descending upon Roku City, in great company after the Barbie and Taylor Swift creative executions in our beloved digital metropolis.
