Roku UK: Britain’s 10 Favourite Christmas Movies
With Halloween and bonfire night behind us, the countdown to Christmas has commenced! But is it too early to start cosying up with Christmas movies? From our research it shows that 63% of Brits agree that today, the 1st December, is the date to start watching Christmas movies, and it’s socially unacceptable to watch festive flicks any earlier.
When we finally succumb to the Christmas cheer, it’s the classics that remain on top for UK consumers. Home Alone is the first choice, proving that Macaulay Culkin’s Christmas antics hold a special place in our hearts.
These are the top 10 Christmas movies according to Brits:
#1 – Home Alone (1990)

Available for streaming on: Netflix, Amazon Video, Google Play, Wuaki
#2 – Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

Available for streaming on: Amazon Video, Google Play
#3 – Die Hard (1988)

Available for streaming on: Netflix, Wuaki, Google Play
#4 – It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

Available for streaming on: Now TV, Amazon Video, Google Play, Wuaki
#5 – The Snowman (1982)

Available for streaming on: Amazon Video
#6 – The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)

Available for streaming on: Now TV, Google Play, Wuaki, Amazon Video
#7 – Love Actually (2003)

Available for streaming on: Wuaki, Amazon Video, Google Play
#8 – Bad Santa (2003)

Available for streaming on: Now TV, Amazon Video, Wuaki, Google Play
#9 – Frozen (2013)

Available on: Wuaki, Amazon Video, Google Play
#10 – How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Available for streaming on: Now TV, Wuaki, Amazon Video, Google Play
Meanwhile men and women remain undecided about what makes a Christmas classic. For women, heart-warming romcoms Love Actually and The Holiday are firm favourites, whereas action-packed Die Hard and black comedy, Bad Santa, are favourites amongst men.
Perhaps surprisingly, Frozen – the most recent addition to the list – is more popular with men than women, with twice as many men saying it was their favourite Christmas movie (6% vs 3%). However, the comedic value and upbeat tunes of Olaf fail to win him the crown of King Snowman, with the UK favouring the strong silent protagonist who took a boy walking in the air, in The Snowman.
