Roku UK: Our Bonfire Recommendations for 7th November 2014

Remember, remember the 5th of November….and the 7th,8th and 9th–  Yes we all know that the bonfire celebrations will continue over yet another weekend. However if you’ve had your fix of fireworks for this year and fancy staying warm indoors instead, why not stream a ‘fire themed’ film this weekend?  Here are some recommendations to get you started…

  • The Great Fire (ITV Player)The story of humble baker Thomas Farriner and his fabled involvement in the Great Fire of London concluded this week. Watch all four episodes now on ITV Player.
  • Gunpowder 5/11 (BBC iPlayer)  – Drama documentary unveiling the inner secrets of the Gunpowder Plot, using the words of the plotters themselves.  Based on the interrogations of Thomas Wintour and Guy Fawkes.
  • Fire with Fire (Sky Store) – When fire fighter Jeremy Coleman (Josh Duhamel) sees Ayran gang boss Hagen (Vincent D’Onofrio) murder two innocents he bypasses the law to ensure that Hagen gets the death penalty that he deserves.
  • The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Netflix) – After her triumph in the Hunger Games Katniss Everdean travels through the districts on ‘Victor’s Tour’ as a rebellion gathers steam around her.
  • Sunshine (Sky Store) – The sun is dying and the Earth’s future depends on the crew of the spaceship Icarus II. Their mission is to reignite the star by firing a gigantic bomb into its failing heart. Cillian Murphy, Michelle Yeoh and Captain America’s Chris Evans star with direction from non-other than Danny Boyle.
  • Fireman Sam: The Great Fire of Pontypandy (Netflix) – One for the kids.  Norman Price and his friend, Derek accidently create a raging wildfire that threatens Pontypandy.  Sam considers an offer to leave the Ponypandy.
  • The Smoke (Now TV) From the makers of Broadchurch and The Tunnel comes an adrenaline fuelled eight-part drama charting the trials and tribulations of a group of London fire fighters.
  • Chicago Fire  (Google Play) – American drama series exploring the professional and personal lives of the fire-fighters and paramedics of the Chicago Fire Department.
  • V for Vendetta (Now TV) – Visually immersive adaptation of Alan Moore’s graphic novel about a Guy Fawkes-like avenger who is hell bent on destroying a totalitarian British State, starring Natalie Portman
  • The Apprentice: You’re Fired (BBC iPlayer) – Accompanied by guests, Dara O’Briain presents reaction to The Apprentice including interviews with Alan Sugar’s recently fired charges.
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Google Play) When Harry Potter’s name emerges from the Goblet of fire he becomes a competitor in the gruelling battle for glory among three wizarding schools in the Tri-wizard tournament. Now Harry must confront a deadly dragon, fierce water demons and an enchanted maze only to find himself in the cruel grasp of ‘He Who Must Not Be Named’.
