Roku UK: New Releases and Recommendations for 3rd October 2014

It’s a new month so what better time to start watching a new box set than now? With modern day classics such as House of Cards, Breaking Bad, Lost and 24 all available to view on Roku, you are spoilt for choice.

  • Blended (Movie) – After a disastrous blind date, Jim (Adam Sandler) and Lauren (Drew Barrymore) find themselves stuck together at a family resort in Africa, where they discover that previously missing spark. But will his daughters blend together as well with her sons? Sandler reunites with The Wedding Singer team of Barrymore and director Frank Coraci for a surprisingly sweet romantic comedy.   • Mildred Pierce (Series) – A good series to get started on, Kate Winslet stars in this elegant mini-series which follows the fortunes of a suburban housewife who strives to make ends meet in depression hit 1930s California. Watch it on Now TV.
  • Life below Zero (Documentary) – This reality adventure series on Netflix follows individuals who’ve chosen to live in the remote Alaskan wilderness, miles from civilisation.
  • The Driver (Series) – Vince McKee’s life is turned upside down when he agrees to be the driver for a criminal gang in this three-part BBC drama. Catch up on the first two episodes now on BBC iPlayer.
  • Postman Pat: The Movie (Movie) – Children’s TV favourite Postman Pat delivers the feature-length goods in a bonkers adventure that sees him rise to fame on a TV talent show. But while he’s on the road to stardom, a sneaky mail company executive replaces him back in Greendale by a robotic clone who isn’t going to win popularity contests. Watch this family favourite on Sky Store.
  • 24 Hours in Police Custody (Series) – This series opens with an extraordinary episode which sees the dawn arrest of a man on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. The film documents the work of the lead detectives as they investigate and interview the suspect about his involvement in a plot to shoot a man. Watch this first episode now on 4oD.
  • The Nightmare Neighbour Next Door (Documentary) – This brand new series goes behind closed doors to find out what really happens between neighbours when disputes arise, looking at some of the most extreme and extraordinary cases in Britain today. Catch up now on Demand 5.
  • Oldboy (Movie) – Spike Lee’s remake of the notorious Korean shocker stars Josh Brolin as a drunken exec who is kidnapped, framed for his wife’s murder and locked in a hotel room… for 20 years. Eventually set free, he goes all out for revenge on his captors. Whoever they are. Never one to shy from a challenge, Lee coolly executes a thriller that’s as brutal, compulsive and unsettling as Park Chan-wook’s original. Watch it on Now TV.
  • Scott and Bailey (Series) – This latest series continues to explore both the personal and professional lives of DC Rachel Bailey and DC Janet Scott – both members of the Manchester Metropolitan Police Major Incident Team, whose task is to track down killers.   • Good Will Hunting (Movie) – When professors discover that an aimless janitor is also a math genius, a therapist helps the young man confront the demons that are holding him back. Watch it now on Netflix.
