Roku UK: Five TV shows you’ll want to watch in 2016

There are loads of great new and returning shows set to arrive on our screens this year and the best news is you’ll be able to stream many of them on your Roku player! Here we round up the best new series currently available, along with a couple to watch out for…

Mr Selfridge

Mr Selfridge, Series 4
Back on our screens for a fourth and final series, Mr Selfridge is a firm favourite with ITV viewers. The new series opens in 1928, where we find Harry Selfridge “at the pinnacle of his power and public celebrity -a retail giant at the heart of the roaring twenties”. Unfortunately, it looks as though things are about to turn sour for the charismatic entrepreneur as the story for this 10-episode run will focus on Harry’s dramatic fall as he loses hold of his empire.

New episodes now available weekly on Roku’s ITV Hub channel.

Ripper Street, Season 4
Ripper Street is back! The grim district of Whitechapel once again provides the backdrop for the exploits of Detective Inspector Reid and his team as they strive to maintain law and order in the wake of Jack the Ripper’s killing spree. The new series, set in 1897, promises to be every bit as grisly as season 3.

Now available to stream on the Roku platform with Amazon Video.

Lucifer, Season 1
Exclusive to Amazon Video in the UK, Lucifer shows early signs of becoming a hit show! The series stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer (yes, that Lucifer) who, after growing ‘bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell’, relocates to Los Angeles to work alongside the LAPD.

Available to stream on the Roku platform with Amazon Video from January 26th.

Coming soon….

There are quite a few exciting shows in the pipeline for 2016 which are yet to be given release dates. Luckily, the Roku Feed feature enables users to “follow” shows that are of interest. To get started with this feature, simply select ‘Search’ from the home screen and type in the title of the show you’re looking for. With that in mind, here are a couple of shows to keep on your radar for 2016…

Sneaky Pete

Sneaky Pete
Following a successful pilot episode in 2015, Amazon has confirmed that Sneaky Pete will return to Amazon Video for a full series this year. Starring Giovanni Ribisi, the show revolves around a conman who, after leaving prison, takes cover from his past by assuming the identity of his former cellmate, Pete. No official release date has been given yet, so be sure to add Sneaky Pete to your Roku Feed!

The Man in the High Castle, Season 2
When the dystopian mystery drama, The Man in the High Castle, came to our screens in 2015 it received much praise from critics and viewers alike. Produced by Ridley Scott, the show is set in an alternate 1962 where Axis powers won WWII. Earlier this month it was confirmed that the series will be back for a second season this year. As with Sneaky Pete, no official release date has been given so it’s another title to add to your Roku Feed!
