Roku UK: Back to university – top 3 essential gadgets for student life
With September just around the corner, it’s nearly time for a new batch of fledgling academics to give up their home-comforts and embrace University life. We’ve put together a list of our top three gadgets, guaranteed to make student living that little bit easier.
The quick answer to a decent meal
Ask any student and they’ll probably say they don’t have the money, time or skills to cook a proper meal. But the truth is eating properly while at University doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming. All you really need is a slow cooker! From making stews and casseroles to chunky soups, just chop up some basic ingredients, chuck them in the pot and leave it to do its thing while you check out the nearest student bar (sorry, we mean library…).
We recommend the Russell Hobbs Cook@Home Slow Cooker. It’s easy to clean, makes 4-5 portions (enough for all your housemates) and is affordable at around £25.
How to nail that attendance record
All you need is Clocky, the Runaway Alarm Clock. The genius (or possibly sadistic) quality of this gadget lies in its ability to propel itself from surfaces and run across the floor, forcing you to get out of bed and catch the little critter in order to silence its alarm. Clever, eh? It was invented by a student who struggled to get up in time for lectures, so at least you know it works!

All the entertainment you want, in one tiny gadget!
TV and film fans may think their viewing habits will be severely disrupted once they embark on life as a student. After all, Smart TVs and cable packages are often just too expensive. And who has time to sit in front of the TV anyway with all that studying?
Fear not, freshers…we have the perfect solution:
The Roku Streaming Stick is a student’s best friend: it’s affordable, takes up minimal space and best of all provides access to the most comprehensive streaming channel line-up in the UK. There are over 1500 channels including Netflix, Google Play, Now TV and all the major catch-up channels (BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All4, Demand 5). You can also use it to stream music from VEVO and YouTube (great for house parties!), and access a huge range of specialist shows.
