Roku Search now finds entertainment from 50+ streaming channels including news
Roku Search allows users to find great entertainment from our top streaming channels including Amazon Video, SHOWTIME, Hulu, Netflix, Google Play Movies & TV and Crackle. Our comprehensive and unbiased universal search helps you discover where movies and TV shows are available to stream and lists results in order of price. It’s a big time and money saver, which is why Roku Search is a favorite feature among Roku customers today.
Its power is clear: for example, let’s say you wanted to watch The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1. After conducting a Roku Search, you will learn where the movie is available to stream. Most importantly, if you have a Hulu, Amazon Video or Time Warner Cable subscription, you’ll learn that you can stream it free with your subscription!
Today we’re pleased to announce that Roku Search now searches across these 50+ streaming channels, including, for the first time ever, news channels:
We also now have three great ways to discover news content on the Roku platform:
- The first is using the “News” menu that appears on your Roku home screen. Navigating down to this option and then across will showcase the top news headlines from AOL across many different categories, including entertainment, tech, sports, business and lifestyle.
- The second option is to visit and stream the news channel directly. With 200+ News and Weather streaming channels in the Roku Channel Store, you’re sure to find your favorite news outlet.
- The third and brand-new way is via Roku Search. You can find relevant news results from several news outlets including ABC News, CBS News, Fox Business, Fox News, and NBC News – see example below. This list continues to grow, with many more partners expected in the coming months.
We know that our customers want to search for the latest news headlines. We now offer that from the news channels mentioned above going back a full week. For example, if you were to type in “NBA Finals”, you would see the search results below. Click on the news headline to start streaming the news story.
Alternatively if you only wanted to see today’s headlines, you can search the date (“617”) and bring back all of today’s headlines:
Roku Search is one of the great ways Roku empowers users to the content they want to watch. We’re excited to bring you these new search and discovery capabilities to enhance your streaming experience on Roku players and Roku TV. Stay tuned for more Roku Search additions in the coming months.
Happy searching everyone!
