6 tips to help you make the most of Roku Photo Streams

We all have pictures that capture important moments in our lives, but have you ever wished those moments could be on TV? Is it when you proposed to the one you love? How about when your dog wore that hilarious octopus costume? Perhaps when your nephew scored the game-winning goal? Or, maybe you want to show off your NFT collection. Just scroll through your phone, and I’m sure you can find countless pictures that deserve to be displayed on your Roku device. Lucky for you, Roku Photo Streams can make it happen.

What is Roku Photo Streams, you ask?

Roku Photo Streams is a new feature that allows anyone with a free Roku account to share their favorite photos onscreen, turning your TV into a giant personalized digital photo frame. You can create digital albums, known as Streams, found on the Photo Streams channel on your Roku home screen. From unforgettable family reunion photos to embarrassing prom pictures, Roku Photo Streams helps you share moments by uploading up to 1,000 photos per Stream (JPG, PNG, HEIC and WEBP formats). You can also invite up to 25 family members and friends to join and contribute to each Stream with their Roku account, and you can also link your albums from Google Photos too.

So, without further ado, here are six ways you can make the most of Roku Photo Streams.

Roku Photo Streams

Create a Photo Stream

First things first: Let’s get Roku Photo Streams up and running. Create your first stream by firing up a web browser and going to photostreams.roku.com. Sign into your Roku account, then select Create Stream to create a new Photo Stream.

Do you have the Roku mobile app? Even better! Turn your Photo Streams into a reality by launching the app, then tapping on the user icon in the top corner. Once you are signed in, tap Photo Streams, then select Create Stream.

By the way, you can customize the name of your Photo Stream, so get creative! May I suggest, “A Picture Paints 4K Pixels?”

Link albums from Google Photos

Put your albums from Google Photos on the biggest screen in the house. Go to photostreams.roku.com and select “Create Stream”, then select “Connect to Google Photos.” Sign into your Google account and select albums to link, then visit Photo Streams on your Roku device or browser to set your new screensaver! You can also go to the Photo Streams channel on device and select “Connect Google Photos” to get started.

Share a Photo Stream

Look at you, creating your very own Roku Photo Stream! Now that you have your best selfies and dream vacation pictures on Photo Streams, what do you do? Share them!

You can share your Streams with other Roku users so they can enjoy your favorite photos on their Roku devices as well. Share a selected Stream by using the Stream URL or email the link directly to your Roku crew. Once a Stream is shared, your family and friends are welcome to contribute their own photos.

Browse the Photo Streams channel

Ready to see your best moments on TV, like when you caught that massive fish just off the coast? Open the Photo Streams channel on your Roku device to browse all Streams you are a member of and start a slideshow. You can also view a favorite Stream when your Roku device goes to sleep by setting the screensaver to Photo Streams.

Choose a Photo Stream for a screensaver

Between your graduation photos and your mountain climbing pictures, you will have to make some tough choices. Good thing you can add or remove Streams from your screensaver.

To set your Photo Streams screensaver, press Home on your Roku remote, then use the directional pad to move to the right and select the Photo Streams channel. Once you launch the channel, select Screensaver. Under Set as Screensaver, select On to set Photo Streams as the screensaver.

If you prefer to set your Photo Streams screensaver through the Settings menu, press Home on your Roku remote, then scroll and select Settings. From there, click on Theme to open the Theme menu, then select Screensavers. Click Photo Streams, then select Set as Screensaver to set Photo Streams as the screensaver.

You can also make screensaver changes from your mobile app or photostreams.roku.com.

Use the Roku mobile app

Don’t forget to upload your most memorable shots to the Roku mobile app while you’re on the go. Thanks to the app, you can still use the Roku Photo Streams feature even when you’re away from the couch. You can easily launch your own Stream and/or contribute to other Streams from the palm of your hand, letting you share even more special moments with family and friends.
