Our favorite TV moms
In honor of Mother’s Day, we put together a list of the best, well, our favorite TV moms. We can’t say that we agree with all of their parenting tactics, but these big personalities make for some must-see TV.
Who’s your favorite TV mom? Or check out our version of the best TV dads!

Claire Dunphy on “Modern Family”
Every mom can relate to this mother of three in some way. Whether it’s her overprotective tendencies, her perfectionist approach to parenting or her penchant for wine, we’ve loved watching every minute of Claire do her thing on Modern Family.
Carmela Soprano on “The Sopranos”
You had better be a strong woman if you’re going to be the mother of New Jersey’s most powerful waste management consultant’s (ahem) children – and that’s exactly what Carmela Soprano was. Often faced with moral dilemmas due to her husband’s line of work, she never let anything get in the way of loving and protecting her children.
Kitty Forman on “That 70s Show”
This loving mother to Laurie and Eric (and the rest of the neighborhood kids) finds a way to shower her children with love while being hilarious at the same time. Her infectious laugh and witty sarcasm are just a couple of the reasons Kitty made our list of favorite TV moms.
Lois Griffin on “Family Guy”
Lois, mother to Meg, Chris and Stewie, is one of two animated moms to make the list. Patience is definitely her strong suit, as evidenced by her ability to manage her crazy husband Peter and their hilarious family.
Peggy Bundy on “Married With Children”
While we wouldn’t recommend taking after Peg’s mothering style, she has made us laugh more than any other TV mom in the 80s and 90s. The wife to Al and mother to Kelly and Bud, Peggy is famous for lounging on the couch eating bon-bons while refusing to cook or clean.
June Cleaver on “Leave it to Beaver”
As many TV moms were in the 50s and 60s, the mother to Wally and Beaver was portrayed as a traditional homemaker. Always ladylike, with perfect hair and formal but stylish attire, June had her hands full with her two mischievous boys.
Marge Simpson on “The Simpsons”
Although she has held many different jobs over the course of the show including a police officer, a pretzel maker, and a power plant employee, Marge takes pride in, perhaps the most difficult one – being the matriarch of the Simpsons. Kudos to Marge for putting up with Homer, Bart and the rest of the gang for over 28 seasons now.
Cookie Lyon on “Empire”
Is there a mom on this list that is fiercer than Ms. Lyon? We think not. Raised in the mean streets of Philly, Cookie served 17 years in prison before returning to take what was rightfully hers: half of the Empire. While we may not always agree with her strategies, we can appreciate the fact that her goal is to always do what’s best for Andre, Jamal, and Hakeem.
Carol Brady on “The Brady Bunch”
This lovely lady was bringing up three golden-haired girls by herself until she met a fellow raising three boys of his own. Played by TV icon Florence Henderson, Carol keeps this large family together while staying busy as a freelance writer, sculptor, political activist and a singer.
Tami Taylor on “Friday Night Lights”
As the resident school counselor, wife to the football coach and mother of two, Tami definitely had her hands full! We love her because she was never afraid to speak her mind, give advice, and always found time for her daughters Julie and Gracie Belle.
