How categories upgrade the live TV experience on your Roku device
Say goodbye to arrowing up and down, channel by channel to stream live TV: There’s a new Roku OS feature on your Roku device that helps you easily navigate the more than 300 free channels available in the Live TV Channel Guide on The Roku Channel.
Let’s break down how to find your favorite live streaming TV content fast on your Roku device with categories. (And if you haven’t already cut cable, it’s easier and more affordable than ever with the new Roku Express!)

What are Live TV categories?
Found within the Live TV Channel Guide, categories on The Roku Channel allow you to quickly navigate recently streamed or favorited live TV channels, plus browse free live streaming entertainment by popular genres. It’s the breeziest way to start streaming live content without the chore of clicking through hundreds of channels.
How to access Live TV categories on your Roku device
Once you are viewing the Live TV Channel Guide, navigate left on your Roku remote to expand the categories menu. There, you’ll find your most recently watched live channels on The Roku Channel, your Favorites list, plus live channels grouped by genre including News, Sports, Kids & Family, Movies, En Español, and more. If you currently enjoy any Premium Subscriptions within The Roku Channel, they can be found here, too.
Add channels to your Favorites list in Live TV categories
What channels appear within the Favorites category are up to you! To add a channel to Favorites, simply select the channel within the guide, press the * button on your Roku remote, and confirm. Whether you have one go-to channel or a dozen, find your Favorites by navigating left on your Roku remote within the Live TV Channel Guide. Or, to track specific movies and TV shows, try our new Save List feature.
Now that you have streaming live TV under control, check out our new Roku Smart Home cameras that stream live on your Roku device.
