How to use Private Listening on Roku TVs and Roku streaming players, plus more handy tips

Sometimes you just want to enjoy your favourite TV series alone. You don’t want to be bothered with countless questions by that family member who is trying to get up to speed with everything. Or have arguments over the volume of the TV, when half of the family want to sleep. Meet Private Listening, available on all Roku streaming devices!

Using a Roku TV or a Roku streaming player and the Roku Mobile App and a pair of headphones, you use Private Listening to save you from those household arguments.

  1. Download the free Roku mobile app via Google Play or the App Store.
  2. Then connect your app with your Roku streaming device via Wi-Fi.
  3. To activate Private Listening, open the Roku Mobile App and plug in your headphones.
  4. When your headphones are plugged in, you can activate and disable private listening by tapping the headphone icon. You can even use private listening with up to 4 devices at the same time!

Now that the Private Listening feature is set up you can crank up the volume and get comfortable, knowing that you won’t be waking up the house while watching your favourite TV shows.

Use your mobile device as a fully functional remote control
If you prefer typing over swiping, use the mobile app to control your Roku TV. It includes a virtual keyboard and an on-screen touchpad, both easy and fun to use.

Cast music, photos, and videos from your phone to your TV
Reminisce about the good times by casting music, photos, and videos from your phone to your TV. Simply select “Photos+” from the main menu and choose photos or videos.

You can even create a screensaver for your using pictures from your mobile device. Just select “Screensaver” once you choose “Photos+” from the main menu.

Voice search and control
Use voice search across top channels in the Roku mobile app, when you’re feeling a bit lazy. Just tap the search button and speak into the microphone of your mobile phone.
