Happy National Streaming Day, UK streamers! (2015)
Today is your day, streamers. That’s right, it’s National Streaming Day! Today and every year on 20 May. This just happens to also be the same day that the very first player ever to stream Netflix to the TV was introduced – it was called the Roku player.
Streaming is changing the way many of us consume entertainment by bringing more choice and control to TV viewing than ever before. Roku® customers streamed more than 3 billion hours in 2014! In the last year alone options like Google Play, Sainsbury’s Entertainment Channel, WWE Network, Twitch, GoPro and more have all made their way into the living room.
Many of you joined us in celebrating the very first National Streaming Day last year. We loved the photos of your binge-watching sessions, tweets of your ambitious stream lists for the night and your nostalgic memories of the very first Roku player you purchased. This year let’s take it up a notch.
Here are some ways you can join in on the fun:
- Show us how you are celebrating and send us tweets, Instagram photos, Vine videos and Facebook posts – be sure to tag us with @RokuUK and include #StreamingDay and we might share it!
- Show the world you’re a streamer. Upload one of our fun profile images below as your social media profile pic. [Click to to download image of your choice]

- Invite your friends over to stream a classic movie, binge-watch that TV show everyone’s talking about or browse the Roku Channel Store and add one of the more than 1,400 streaming channels in the U.K. – there’s always an awesome streaming channel to discover.
What’s on your watch list for National Streaming Day? Whatever it may be, stream it like you’ve never streamed before!
