Halloween films that will make you wonder what goes bump in the night

Today is Halloween, and we think it’s a perfect time to have a mid-week snuggle up to a scary (or a scarily funny) film. Grab a bag of popcorn, conjure up your favourite ghoul and check out one of our top picks and the channels to watch them on.

Friday the 13th and Friday the 13th Part 2 – Shudder
Two classic films with more sequels than you have fingers, this one is definitely not for kids. The first film focuses on a mysterious killer who stalks their unsuspecting victims at an eerie summer camp. Part 2 picks up where the first film finishes and introduces the 80s horror icon, Jason Voorhees. We’d recommend watching both films back to back; prepare to never sleep soundly again.

Halloween – Shudder
You may have already seen the remake that was released this month, but have you seen the original? Halloween is one of the most notable slasher films from the 70s that was rumoured to have inspired Friday the 13th. Set in a sleepy Midwestern town, the introverted Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), is stalked by a terrifying serial killer that threatens to destroy everything she holds dear.

Zombieland – NOW TV
The one lesson you’ll learn from this film is if you’re trying to ‘kill’ a zombie, always go for the double tap. Zombieland is a post-apocalyptic drama revolving around four misfit survivors, one with an unnatural obsession with Twinkies. Check out this comedy, so you’re prepared for the zombie apocalypse.

Twilight – Netflix
One of the biggest films in 2008, Twilight is an adaption of the young adult book of the same name. The film stars Kirsten Stewart as high-schooler Bella Swan and Robert Patterson as the 108-year old vampire Edward Cullen (he doesn’t look a day over 17). Watch these two lovebirds go through the trials and tribulations of young(ish) love with plentiful helpings of Vampire and Werewolf action.

Scary Movie 2 – Amazon Prime Video
What do you get if you stir up classic horror movie troupes and a dollop of tongue-in-cheek humour? Arguably, the best film out of the Scary Movie film series. This film is guaranteed to make you spill your popcorn, not out of fear but sheer hilarity. The shining star has to be Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks – she has too many one-liners that you’ll be reciting until December.

Hocus Pocus – Google Play Movies & TV
A cult classic for many 90s kids, Hocus Pocus features a star-studded line-up with musical legend Bette Midler and also Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. The three witches get up to all kinds of mischief in their efforts for eternal life, after being resurrected on All Hallows Eve. If you’re looking for a funny option for all of the family, then this one is for you.
