10 free movies on The Roku Channel [11/8/2017]
Every week, we’ll be putting together a list of free movies to watch on The Roku Channel. In this edition, we’ve highlighted an 80s staple featuring Michael J. Fox, a political thriller starring Clint Eastwood, and a couple of martial arts classics!

– Teen Wolf (1985): An ordinary high school student discovers that his family has an unusual pedigree when he finds himself turning into a werewolf. Starring Michael J. Fox and James Hampton.
Why it made our list: On the heels of his breakout hit, Back to the Future, Michael J. Fox provides us with some good, clean fun in this 1980s classic.
– King Kong (1976): A petroleum exploration expedition comes to an isolated island and encounters a colossal giant gorilla. Starring Jeff Bridges and Charles Grodin.
Why it made our list: The Eighth Wonder of the World made his return to the big screen in this remake (which won an Academy Award for special effects) of the 1933 original.
– Kickboxer (1989): Kurt Sloane must learn the ancient kick boxing art of Muay Thai in order to avenge his brother. Starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dennis Alexio.
Why it made our list: If you haven’t seen it already, do yourself a favor and watch this film for the epic fight scenes (and Jean-Claude’s underrated dance moves).
– In the Line of Fire (1989): Secret Service agent Frank Horrigan couldn’t save Kennedy, but he’s determined not to let a clever assassin take out this president. Starring Clint Eastwood and John Malkovich.
Why it made our list: Clint Eastwood delivers a performance for the ages in this tense thriller directed by Wolfgang Petersen.
– Born to the West, AKA Hell Town (1937): Can Dare Rudd prove he is responsible enough to win the heart of Judy and also outwit the crooked saloon owner? Starring John Wayne and Marsha Hunt.
Why it made our list: John Wayne’s screen presence in Hell Town makes it easy to see why he’s widely regarded as one of the most influential stars in American film history.
– Man in the Moon (1991): A coming of age story set in the South of USA when Elvis was King. Starring Reese Witherspoon and Sam Waterston.
Why it made our list: Witness the birth of a star in Reese Witherspoon’s first role. She auditioned for a extra part, but ended up landing the lead role!
– Center Stage (2000): A group of 12 teenagers from various backgrounds enroll at the American Ballet Academy in New York to make it as ballet dancers and each one deals with the problems and stress of training and getting ahead in the world of dance. Starring Amanda Schull and Ethan Stiefel.
Why it made our list: This coming of age film gives you an inside look into the life of a ballet dancer – from the rigorous training to personal relationship issues and much more.
– Man on a Ledge (2012): As a police psychologist works to talk down an ex-con who is threatening to jump from a Manhattan hotel rooftop, the biggest diamond heist ever committed is in motion. Starring Sam Worthington and Elizabeth Banks.
Why it made our list: Plot twists on plot twists on plot twists will keep your palms sweating all the way up until the unexpected ending.
– The Art of War (2000): Ruthless terrorists are threatening to bring down the United Nations. They frame the one man they believe can stop them – an international security expert named Shaw. Now he must run from his own allies and become a solitary force for good, as he tries to stop what could become World War III. Starring Wesley Snipes and Anne Archer.
Why it made our list: The fight scenes featuring martial arts master Wesley Snipes definitely do not disappoint.
– Kung Fu Hustle (2004): In Shanghai, China in the 1940s, a wannabe gangster aspires to join the notorious “Axe Gang” while residents of a housing complex exhibit extraordinary powers in defending their turf. Starring Stephen Chow and Wah Yuen.
Why it made our list: Equal parts kung fu fighting and slapstick comedy make this over-the-top film a must watch!
