With the holiday season in full swing, family movie nights are already underway in my household. Among the hundreds of free movies and TV shows on The Roku Channel, we’ve highlighted a few heartwarming films available this month to stream for free.

Man in the Moon (1991, PG-13) – A coming of age story set in the South of USA when Elvis was King. Starring Reese Witherspoon and Sam Waterston.

Why it made our list: Witness the birth of a star in Reese Witherspoon’s first role. She auditioned for a extra part, but ended up landing the lead role!

Soul Surfer (2011, PG): Teenage surfer Bethany Hamilton overcomes the odds and her own fears of returning to the water after losing her left arm in a shark attack. Starring Annasophia Robb, Dennis Quaid, and Carrie Underwood.

Why it made our list: This inspirational true story of an up and coming surfing star will leave you believing that you can overcome anything with enough perseverance.

Noel (2004, PG): Five New Yorkers come together on Christmas Eve, seeking a miracle. Starring Paul Walker, Penelope Cruz, and Susan Sarandon.

Why it made our list: Fun fact: this underrated Christmas flick has an uncredited appearance by the late, great Robin Williams.

North (1994, PG): Sick of the neglect he receives from his mom and dad, a young boy leaves home and travels the world in search of new parents. Starring Elijah Wood and Bruce Willis.

Why it made our list: It’s an all around fun movie with an all-star cast, including Wood, Willis, Jason Alexander and Dan Aykroyd.
