Roku UK: New Releases and Recommendations for 5th December 2014

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! With the weather forecast predicting our first big freeze this weekend, it is definitely time to batten down the hatches, wrap up warm, and snuggle up with some feel-good TV. Check out our recommendations for this weekend, we’ve made sure there’s plenty to choose from and you won’t even have to leave the sofa.

  • Babylon (Series) – Comedy-drama directed by Danny Boyle, starring Brit Marling and James Nesbitt. An American visionary sets out to revolutionise the image of London’s police force just as an outbreak of violence erupts. Watch the latest episode on 4oD.
  • Autopsy: The Last Hours of Elvis Presley (Series) – World-renowned forensic pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd re-examines the tragic deaths of celebrities who have died in mysterious circumstances. This week he looks into the facts surrounding Elvis Presley’s demise at his home in Graceland, using testimony from the singer’s childhood best friend, his cousin and his private nurse, as well as the medical facts.   • Unforgiven (Mini-series) – Three-part thriller that traces the drastic consequences that arise for three seemingly unrelated families following a woman’s release from prison. Watch the mini-series on ITV Player now.
  • Some Girls (Series) – Comedy about a group of quirky 18 year olds who live on the same inner city estate, trying to navigate their way through their school and home lives. The third series of Some Girls is available now, with each episode premiering on BBC iPlayer a week in advance.
  • The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (Movie) – Thorin and his band of dwarves flee the Orcs, pushing Bilbo toward a confrontation with the dragon Smaug in the second instalment of the Hobbit saga. Watch it now on Netflix.
  • The Inbetweeners Movie 2 (Movie) – The Inbetweeners 2 reunites Jay, Neil, Simon and Will for their latest critically acclaimed smash-hit comedy adventure. Having left school in the summer the boys have gone their separate ways, most noticeably Jay, who delights in telling the others via email that he is on a ‘mental gap year’ in Australia. Neil is desperate to see Jay, and Will and Simon are having a miserable time at Uni, so they decide to go and visit Jay in Oz. Catch it now on Google Play.
  • Hercules (Movie) – Dwayne Johnson clubs off all-comers as the classical warrior Hercules, a burnished hunk who surrounds himself with a gang of trusted lieutenants who help maintain the myth that he is born of the gods. Yet, in reality, he’s a money-grabbing mercenary who will fight any adversary for a price. Available now at Sky Store.
  • The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (Movie) – Directed by and starring Ben Stiller. When his job along with that of his co-worker are threatened, Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey that turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined. Watch it on Now TV.
  • Fleming (Series) – Dominic Cooper stars alongside Lara Pulver and Anna Chancellor as James Bond author Ian Fleming in this stylish and compelling new drama. Catch up on season one now on Now TV.

  • Clueless (Movie) – Remember this 1995 teen classic? A meddlesome Beverly Hills high school student Cher (Alicia Silverstone) gets more than she bargained for when she gives a fashion-challenged student a makeover. Catch it now on Netflix.
