Celebrate #WorldTourismDay with 7 Fantasy and Sci-Fi Worlds to Explore
It’s World Tourism Day and if you’re stuck in the office, busy with university or not planning on taking any trips soon, don’t fret! There are plenty of other worlds and even universes for you to explore from the comfort of your sofa, and we have hit-list to keep the Autumn and Winter blues away.
Carnival Row
Step into this urban fantasy and open yourself up to the magic around you.
In the streets of Gloamingside, colloquially known as Carnival Row, you’re likely not to see a human face but probably a fae, faun, trow or one of the many magical beings that have emigrated to this community. Beware, the streets aren’t safe anymore with a serial killer on the loose.
Titans
Travel to an Earth similar to ours, where spandex heroes are the norm.
With locations you’ll recognise such as Ohio and Vienna (but with a little DC twist), you’ll also get to visit famous cities such as the infamously renowned Gotham City, the city that birthed the caped crusader Batman but more importantly, his semi-retired sidekick, Dick Grayson.
American Gods
Delve into the mysterious mythological underbelly of America and further afield, where gods and monsters are on the precipice of what we call our modern world.
Road trip across the States to visit an ancient Hindu goddess at Motel America or travel to Madison, Wisconsin to have your fortune told by a mystical Norn. We’re sure it will be a road trip you’ll never forget.
The 100
Prepare those ration packs, because you won’t find a local Tesco or Asda in the future.
Starting on the Ark, a space station housing the last remaining survivors, you’ll soon quite literally descend to what we once called Earth. Now warped by nuclear radiation, don’t be surprised to see a two-headed deer. Be sure to visit Mount Weather, but be careful, cannibals are rumoured to live there.
The Handmaid’s Tale
Uncover a North America transformed by a dystopian totalitarian regime, now renamed The Republic of Gilead.
If the “Eyes” (Gilead’s political police force) doesn’t stop you, you may catch a glimpse of what Gilead calls its most important commodity – fertile women. Don’t forget to take in the sights of the polluted and radioactive waste contaminated worker camps known as The Colonies.
Star Trek: Discovery
If there is such a thing as a space passport, you’re going to need one for this trip.
Travel the cosmos with the USS Discovery on its mission across the galaxy. Pop over to Vulcan, and you may be lucky enough to learn how to do the Vulcan death grip. Check out Qo’noS to catch the Klingons fighting to the death with the classic Bat’leth. Finally, swing by Talos IV to see sights that conceal more than what meets the eye.
