How to customize your Roku device with themes and more (2022)
Let’s be honest: people love to put their personal touch on things. For some, that means tricking out a stock vehicle with eye-popping modifications. For others, it’s the urge to bedazzle every article of clothing in their wardrobe. But what about those of you who want to add a creative touch to your streaming experience? Good news! Your Roku device is also customizable.
Wait, put down the glue gun—we don’t mean like that.
We’re talking screensavers, custom-tailored home screens, and more. If you’re the type of streamer who is likes to express themselves, read on and learn how you can personalize your Roku experience.

Use theme packs to customize your Roku home screen
Just like you can choose screensavers, wallpapers, and more on a personal computer, you can do the same with your Roku device. The easiest way to do this is with theme packs. And based on all the love we see for the screensaver, we recently added a new Roku City wallpaper.
Straight out of the box, your Roku device comes pre-loaded with a default theme. To change your theme pack, simply navigate to Settings > Themes > Theme Packs from your Roku Home Screen Menu.

Organize your Roku channels
Want to ensure your favorite channels are at the top of your home screen for quick access? No problem!
You can organize your home screen however you like, with your most frequently used channels in the slots that you choose. To move channels around, highlight the channel you wish to move > click the * button > and select move channel. When the channel is your preferred spot, just click OK and you’re all set.

Program your own shortcut buttons
Have a particular channel or command on your Roku device that you use all the time? Create a custom shortcut on select Roku remotes! Included with the Roku Ultra, Roku Streaming Stick 4K+, and the Roku Streambar Pro, the Roku Voice Remote has personal shortcut buttons labeled 1 and 2 that can be mapped to voice commands of your choosing. We especially love using these to listen to music via apps like Spotify and iHeartRadio on a Roku Streambar Pro.
To customize your personal shortcut buttons, issue a voice command, wait for the command to be executed, and then press and hold a personal shortcut button until you hear the success tone.

Rename your Roku device
For most of us, changing our name is a lengthy process that involves lawyers and court visits. Thankfully, it’s much easier for your Roku device via the free Roku mobile app. Maybe you want to keep track of multiple devices, or perhaps you want to name your Roku player after an inside joke between you and your roommates. Whatever the reason, just click the “Devices” tab in the mobile app, click the three dots in the upper right hand corner, then “Set Name and Location.”
