Anthony Wood, Founder and CEO
A pioneer and innovator in TV and digital media, Anthony Wood is the Founder and CEO of Roku, a name that means “six” in Japanese to represent his sixth company. In the early days of Roku, Anthony also served as the vice president of Internet TV at Netflix, where he developed what is known today as the Roku streaming player, originally designed as the original video player for Netflix. Today, Roku streaming players offer the most extensive collection of streaming entertainment to the TV with more than 300 channels featuring movies, TV shows, live sports, music and games.
Prior to Roku, Anthony invented the digital video recorder (DVR) and founded ReplayTV, where he served as President and CEO before the company's acquisition and subsequent sale to DirecTV. Before ReplayTV, Anthony was Founder and CEO of iband, Inc., an Internet software company sold to Macromedia in 1996. The code base developed by Anthony at iBand became a central part of the original core code of Macromedia now known as Adobe Dreamweaver. After selling iBand, Anthony became the vice president of Internet Authoring at Macromedia. Earlier in his career, Anthony was Founder and CEO of SunRize Industries, a supplier of hardware and software tools for non-linear audio recording and editing.
Anthony holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University.
Oliver Hutaff, Chief Financial Officer
With more than 15 years of financial management and accounting experience, Oliver oversees all financial operations, directs the company's continued financial growth, and raises its visibility within the financial community.
Oliver joined Roku from Corel, Inc., a leading worldwide software company located in Ottawa, Canada, where he served as the Vice President of Finance. Previously, Oliver was Director of Finance at Pinnacle Systems (Division of Avid, Sr. Director of Financial Planning and Analysis at M-Audio (also a Division of Avid), Business Unit Controller and Vice President of Digital Networks North America (Formerly SonicBlue) in Santa Clara, CA and Director of Financial Planning and Analysis at Sanrise Corporation in Dublin, CA.
Oliver holds a B.S. in Financial Management from the University of San Francisco.
Charles Seiber, Vice President, Marketing
Chuck has nearly 20 years of experience designing and marketing products for leading consumer and technology companies. As vice president of marketing at Roku, Chuck directs all Roku marketing strategy and efforts around brand awareness, online sales and partner programs. Previously, Chuck was director of marketing in the product and global marketing organizations at Logitech, where he built the notebook solutions business, managed worldwide marketing initiatives, and helped to reposition the Logitech consumer brand. Prior to joining Logitech, Chuck was director of client services and a senior product designer at the international design and innovation consultancy IDEO, where he managed major client accounts and contributed award-winning and market-leading designs in computer hardware, medical devices, and furniture. Chuck has served as a lecturer in product design at Stanford University and has been awarded more than 30 patents. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering as well as an MBA from Stanford University. He also studied industrial design at the Royal College of Art in London.
Jim Funk, Vice President, Business Development
Jim Funk is an Internet TV veteran with more than 10 years of experience in the industry. Jim joined Roku in 2008 and leads content and partner relations. Under Jim’s leadership, Roku expanded its collection of streaming content from partners including Amazon, Pandora, Sony Crackle, Hulu Plus and sports content including MLB.tv, UFC, NBA Gametime, and NHL Center Ice. Previously, Jim held the position of vice president of business development for Internet TV at Netflix. Prior to Netflix, Jim was vice president of marketing and co-founder at Akimbo Systems. Jim also held executive management positions at Macromedia and marketing positions at Apple. Jim has both an MBA and a bachelor's degree from Stanford University.
Mark Goodwin, Vice President, Engineering
Mark Goodwin leads Roku's product development. Mark joined Roku from DIRECTV where he was a Senior Director in their Advertising Engineering group. Prior to DIRECTV, Mark held various senior engineering management positions including VP Engineering at D&M Holdings Inc. and has been a key player in the design and development of digital video recorders products. Mark holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from University of Teesside in the United Kingdom.
As Roku’s Manager of Human Resources and Administration, Susan brings more than 20 years of management experience to her role overseeing Human Resources and Facilities for the organization. Her experience includes small startups, large healthcare organizations, and billion dollar technology organizations. Prior to joining Roku, Susan was the Manager of the CEO’s office at Avid Technology, Business Administrator for Peritus Software and Medical Staff Coordinator for Lahey Clinic.
Susan holds a B.S. degree from Bentley College.
Rajeev Raman, Vice President, Product
Rajeev Raman is an experienced entrepreneur in the areas of mobile and digital entertainment. Rajeev joined Roku in 2011 as the company’s vice president of product management responsible for software product development, service merchandising and interface design for the Roku Internet TV platform. Previously, Rajeev was the founder and CEO of mywaves, inc., a free mobile video service, where he led the company from incubation to a top 10 mobile entertainment service reaching more than six million users each month in less than 24 months; and spearheaded partnerships with well-known entertainment brands including MTV Networks, CBS, FOX and Playboy. At mywaves, Rajeev also established distribution partnerships with Verizon, Vodaphone, Nokia and Sony-Ericsson.
Prior to founding mywaves, Rajeev was an EIR (Entrepreneur-In-Residence) at Menlo Ventures, where he incubated mywaves and assisted with other investment activities. Before that, Rajeev held executive positions at Questra Corporation, where he helped the company grow from inception to more than $7 million in annual revenue; and ETI, where he built the practice to more than $10 million in annual revenue from clients including Motorola Semiconductors, Infineon, LSI Logic and Intel. Rajeev has held other technical positions at ETI, as well as at the American Heart Association and UMS Industries.
Rajeev holds BSEE, MSEE and MBA degrees. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling and discussing topics related to education, politics and technology.
Kim Funk, General Counsel
Kim Funk brings 23 years of combined private practice and in-house experience to the Roku management team. After serving as a litigation partner in a boutique admiralty firm in Houston, and working as an in-house litigator for American Airlines, Kim became the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for ILOG S.A. and served in that capacity for seven and a half years. ILOG, a dual-listed technology company based in Silicon Valley and Paris, is now part of IBM.
Kim earned a BBA degree from the University of Texas, Austin, and a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Houston Law Center.
David Krall, Strategic Advisor
David Krall joins Roku as the Strategic Advisor, reporting to CEO, Anthony Wood. Prior to joining Roku, David served for one and a half years as President and CEO of QSecure and now serves as Executive Chair of the QSecure Board of Directors. Before joining QSecure, David served for seven years as President and CEO of Avid Technology, Inc., a leading tools provider to the media and entertainment industries, based in Tewksbury Massachusetts. Under David's leadership, Avid doubled its revenues to just under $1 Billion annually, introduced groundbreaking new products in its core businesses, and expanded into new markets through organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
David brings broad experience to Roku in the areas of new product development, integration of complex software and hardware solutions, strategy formation, and general management. David has experience working in companies ranging from small startups to public companies with thousands of employees serving worldwide marketplaces.
David holds Bachelor of Science and Master’s of Electrical Engineering degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a master of business administration degree, with distinction, from the Harvard Business School.
Shawn Carolan, Board of Directors
Shawn joined Menlo Ventures in 2002 and has focused primarily on connected software, services and devices. He represents Menlo Ventures on the boards of IMVU, PlayPhone, Roku, Talari, TeleNav and YuMe. His prior investments and board seats include Siri, acquired by Apple, PlaySpan, acquired by Visa, and CinemaNow, now Rovi. Before joining Menlo, Shawn was a management consultant for Booz-Allen & Hamilton after spending most of his career in software development and engineering management. He was a senior developer at Open Port Technology, a start-up that created Internet-based messaging software. Prior to that, Shawn worked at Motorola's Cellular Infrastructure Group and Wireless Data Group, Sprint PCS, and the University of Illinois' Center for Computational Electromagnetics.
Shawn holds a Master's in business administration from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and a Bachelor's and Master's in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois, Campaign. He is also an author of a US patent.
Daniel V. Leff, Ph.D., Board of Directors
Daniel is a partner with Globespan Capital Partners, a leading technology-focused venture capital firm. He evaluates investment opportunities in a wide range of areas including Internet, digital media, and systems and peripherals. He also co-leads Globespan’s energy investment practice. In addition to Roku, Daniel currently serves on the boards of Ampulse and Clean Cell Internationa and is actively involved with a number of Globespan portfolio companies including Calisolar, Nantero, Pelican Imaging and Zeachem.
Prior to joining Globespan in 2008, Daniel was an executive vice president and managing director at Harris & Harris Group, Inc., a publicly held venture capital company (NASDAQ:TINY). While at Harris & Harris Group, Daniel established the company’s first West Coast office and focused on investments in advanced materials, energy, and semiconductor-related technologies. He led Harris & Harris Group's investments in Adesto Technologies, Bridgelux, Cambrios, Cswitch, Innovalight (acquired by DuPont), Molecular Imprints, Nanogram (acquired by Teijin), Nanomix, Neophotonics (NYSE:NPTN), and Solazyme (NASDAQ:SZYM). Earlier in his career, Daniel was with Sevin Rosen Funds and Redpoint Ventures. He also previously held engineering, marketing and strategic investment positions with Intel Corporation.
Daniel earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. He later attended the University of California, Los Angeles and received a doctorate in physical chemistry and an MBA from The Anderson School, where he was an Anderson Venture Fellow. Daniel has been awarded two patents and has been published in several scientific journals.
